The
Drip Irrigation Controller automates the irrigation
process. The controller, which includes low-cost
sensors and simple circuitry, is best suited
for places where water is scarce and must
to be used sparingly. The heart of the project
is the ZiLOG Z8F6401 microcontroller, which
has an eight-channel analog-to-digital converter,
timers, and a UART controller. A 2 × 16 LCD
is connected to the microcontroller; it displays
the humidity level and ambient temperature.
Three push buttons are used to set the limits
of humidity for switching the individual solenoid
valves controlling the water flow to the field.
The humidity and temperature levels are transmitted
at regular time intervals to the PC through
the RS-232 serial port for data logging and
analysis.
