ZiLOG Z8 Multifunction Bench Unit

The Multifunction Bench Unit is controlled by the ZiLOG Z8F microcontroller. The unit has four basic functions: independent positive and negative 0- to 15-VDC programmable power supplies (PPS); two-channel 3-Hz to 1-MHz pulse width modulated square wave generators (SWG1 and SWG2); one-channel 1.5-Hz to 75-kHz square wave generator (SWG3); two-channel –200- to 200-V data acquisition interface (DAI); and multiple fixed power supplies. The PPSs and SWGs are programmed via an IrDA serial link to the Z8F. A simple PocketC demo Palm program was used to verify the IrDA data transfer. (Eventually an OrbForms Palm program will be used.) The DAI is controlled via a parallel interface. A Visual Basic 5 program running on a Windows 98 laptop is used to set up the DAI and display and save the acquired data. (The parallel interface also programs the PPSs and SWGs.) The Z8F debug interface is retained; it is accessible via the front panel for software updates.
