One of the typical methods for determining viscosity
is to measure the amount of time it takes for
a specific liquid to run through a funnel compared
to a calibration liquid (usually water). Fabio’s
design incorporates a cylindrical probe with
holes to let liquid in at one end and out at
the other (like a long funnel). Outfitted with
two gold-plated electrode pairs and connected
to a Z8F6401 microcontroller, the Z8 Encore!®
Viscosity Meter quickly displays a relative
measure of viscosity for in-the-field applications
where standardized instruments are not always
available. This portable instrument is perfect
for applications in the food industry or, as
in Fabio’s case, for measuring viscosity of
water-based paints. |
