Contest
Information:
Participants
("Contestants") in the Motorola
E-Field Sensor 2003 Contest ("Contest")
will compete by developing an application
that is intended for use with Motorola’s
E-Field sensor. Contestants may visit the
"sources" section for downloadable
development tools and documentation. A
limited quantity of E-Field EVMs is being
made available to Contestants who
complete an online request form.
Availability is only while the request form
is posted and quantities are limited. The
EVM contains a programmed Motorola
MC908QY4 MCU with a Motorola MC33794 E-Field
device, a sample MC33794 component,
support circuits, and downloadable
software. Additional MC33794 samples are
available upon request.
Who
May Enter:
The
Contest is open to all persons 18 years
or older and a U.S. resident as of May 1,
2003. Employees of Motorola and Circuit
Cellar, their affiliate companies, subsidiaries,
and agencies (including advertising, promotion,
creative, media placement, public relations,
and product placement), judges and their
family members ("Contest Parties")
are not eligible.
How
to Enter:
Each
project entered in the Contest must be the
original work and property of the person
or team who submits it, or the Contestant
must have written legal permission from
the property owner. In the case of projects
owned by other parties, the written legal
permission must be included with the entry.
Projects should be submitted in digital
format and must be written in English. Projects
may be submitted in hard copy format by
prior arrangement. For an entry to be deemed
acceptable, it must contain the following:
ENTRY
FORM: The completed entry
form may be submitted online, via fax,
or mail to the address listed below. After
the entry form is received, the Contest
Administrator will respond via the same
means with an assigned Project Number.
This number is used to identify the specific
project being submitted and should be
attached to all entry documentation and
to any correspondence. All postal mail
contest correspondence should be directed
to:
Motorola
E-Field Sensor Contest
P.O.
Box 180

ABSTRACT:
The abstract is a publishable description
(approx. 500 words) of the project in
Microsoft Word, PDF, or ASCII text,
including a block diagram (in PDF or
Word format) of the design, a project
photograph, software code sample, and
a schematic. Unless the Contestant specifically
designates a separate abstract file
that is complete with the necessary
description, schematic, diagram, photograph,
and software code to constitute the
required publishable abstract, the Contestant
grants Motorola and Circuit Cellar the
right to utilize schematics, diagrams,
descriptions, software listings, and
photographs incorporated within the
full entry documentation as necessary
to complete the abstract.
ENTRY
DOCUMENTATION: The entry documentation
is the complete documentation of the project
and its operation. This includes a more
detailed text description, flow charts,
diagrams, project photographs, schematics,
and complete software code. Contestants
must submit source code. The source code
can be presented as a text file or as
a file typically used with Motorola E-Field
software development systems. If the project
entry uses a compiled high-level language
for operation, such as C or C++, then
a text listing in this language is defined
as the source code. The entry documentation
should contain at least one digital photograph
of the project (or a note stating that
photographic prints have been sent via
mail). Note: Do not send the physical
project unless you are notified as being
a winner. Entry tip: Read the FAQs
for helpful hints.
Contestants
may enter more than one project but
must submit each with a separate entry
form and Project Number. There should
be no personal identification or corporate
affiliation markings on ANY of the submitted
materials. The Contestant’s name, address,
or corporate affiliation should appear
ONLY ON THE ENTRY FORM. Only the assigned
Project Number should be used as an
ID for the project materials. Contestants
who leave their names in headers, footers,
table of contents pages, schematics,
etc. will be disqualified.
The
project’s core hardware device must be a
MC33794 Motorola E-Field Sensor. Visit the
"sources" section for downloadable
development tools and other documentation.
An
Entry is defined as the ENTRY FORM, ABSTRACT,
and ENTRY DOCUMENTATION.
The
Entry must be developed, completed, and
submitted via e-mail to Contest.administrator@circuitcellar.com
by 11:59 p.m. EST September 30, 2003. Postal
mail submissions must be postmarked by September
30, 2003.
By
submitting an Entry, the Contestant represents
and warrants that the Entry is the Contestant’s
own original work, and that the Contestant
is the owner or has obtained and currently
holds valid and sufficient rights, including
rights in third-party intellectual properties,
to grant Motorola, their subsidiaries, affiliates,
agents, and customers the rights granted
herein. The Contestant agrees to be solely
responsible if he/she submits another developer’s
Entry as his/her own. The Contestant also
agrees to release, indemnify, defend, and
hold Motorola harmless from any and all
claims, liabilities, and damages (including
without limitation attorney’s fees) related
to the Contestant’s entry in the Contest,
or usage of the Entry by Motorola. The Contestant
agrees to immediately notify Motorola in
the event he/she discovers that there is
any change in the ownership of the Entry
as acknowledged and represented herein.
Each
winning Contestant further agrees to and
does hereby grant Motorola and Circuit Cellar,
their subsidiaries, affiliates, agents,
and customers the non-exclusive, irrevocable,
perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide right,
and license to reproduce, modify, display,
publicly perform, and demonstrate the Entry.
Judging:
All
Motorola E-Field Contest Entries will be
judged by a panel of judges selected by
the Contest Administrator on the following:
technical merit 20%, originality 20%, usefulness
20%, cost-effectiveness 20%, and design
optimization 20%. In the event of a tie,
the tied Entry with the highest score in
the technical merit category will be deemed
